Kathmandu, 1 July 2026: Inclusive Education Nepal (IEN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United World Schools (UWS), an international non-profit organization working to end education poverty in remote and marginalized communities. The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between the two organizations to build safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments in schools and in the wider community.
UWS, headquartered in London and operating in Nepal from its Kathmandu office, works on school construction, teacher training, community engagement, and safeguarding in areas where access to education remains limited. Through this partnership, IEN and UWS will bring their respective strengths together in three main areas: inclusive classroom practices, inclusive safeguarding systems, and knowledge sharing.
Under the first area, the two organizations will collaborate on Universal Design for Learning, inclusive pedagogies, and inclusive assessment practices. Under the second, they will work jointly on child protection and disability inclusion within safeguarding systems. The third area of collaboration covers documentation, joint learning briefs, and case studies that capture what the partnership learns along the way.
In practice, this means jointly developing program designs, training content, and resource materials, sharing expertise and research, and organizing training programs, webinars, and community engagement activities together. The two organizations will also pursue joint fundraising and resource mobilization to support these shared initiatives.
To guide the work, IEN and UWS will form a Joint Working Group that meets at least quarterly to review progress and plan upcoming activities. The MoU was signed by Ram Tiwari, Director of Inclusive Education Nepal, and Avinash Jha, Country Director of United World Schools.
“Children in remote communities face barriers that are different from what we see in Kathmandu, but the goal is the same, a classroom where every child can learn and belong,” said Ram Tiwari, Director of IEN. “UWS has built deep trust in the communities where they work, and combining that with our focus on inclusive practice and safeguarding gives us a real chance to reach children who are too often left out.”
Inclusive Education Nepal works toward system wide transformation of inclusive education in Nepal, partnering with schools, organizations, and networks across policy, practice, and public understanding. IEN’s work is grounded in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Universal Design for Learning, and Nepal’s national frameworks for inclusive education.
