On 5 July 2026, Inclusive Education Nepal (IEN) organized its Third Webinar on Child Protection and Safeguarding in Schools, bringing together school principals and education professionals from across Nepal. The webinar created a space for educators to reflect on one of the most important responsibilities of any school: ensuring that every child feels safe, respected, protected, and able to learn without fear.
The session was led by Ram Tiwari of IEN, who facilitated discussions on child protection and safeguarding from both a legal and practical perspective. The webinar explored Nepal’s existing legal and policy provisions related to the protection of children and discussed what these provisions mean for schools, teachers, school leaders, and other education professionals in their day-to-day work.
A key focus of the discussion was the prevention of violence, abuse, neglect, bullying, discrimination, and other forms of harm within school environments. Participants were introduced on how seemingly routine practices, disciplinary approaches, language, and institutional cultures can sometimes place children at risk or make them reluctant to speak about their experiences.
The webinar also emphasized that child safeguarding should not be treated simply as a policy document or a compliance requirement. Rather, it should become part of the everyday culture of a school. This includes creating clear reporting and referral mechanisms, ensuring that children know where they can seek help, supporting teachers to identify signs of concern, and establishing environments where children are listened to and taken seriously.
A total of 23 participants took part in the webinar. Their participation and reflections contributed to a meaningful discussion on how schools can move from responding to incidents of harm towards preventing violence and building safer, more inclusive, and child-friendly learning environments.
The webinar was part of IEN’s continuing efforts to strengthen safeguarding and inclusive education practices in schools across Nepal.
