The First International Conference on Transformative Inclusive Education (TIE 2026) is being organized by Inclusive Education Nepal (IEN) and Kathmandu University School of Education on December 1–2, 2026, in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The conference aims to bring together educators, researchers, policymakers, disability organizations, practitioners, students, and other stakeholders from Nepal and internationally to explore one of the most important questions in education today: How can we transform education systems to ensure meaningful inclusion for all learners?
Nepal has established a progressive legal and policy framework supporting inclusive education. The Constitution of Nepal recognizes education as a fundamental right, while the Act Relating to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities provides for the rights of persons with disabilities, including access to education. Nepal is also a State Party to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
However, significant gaps remain between policy commitments and their implementation in practice. Many children with disabilities and those from marginalized communities continue to experience barriers to meaningful participation and learning.
TIE 2026 will provide a platform for diverse stakeholders to examine the roots of educational exclusion and explore practical, evidence-informed approaches to transforming inclusive education.
The conference will feature discussions on inclusive pedagogy, safety and child protection, adaptive frameworks for learning, disability inclusion, educational systems, and national policy reform. It will also encourage collaboration among government, schools, civil society, educators, researchers, communities, and other stakeholders.
The conference will conclude with a shared vision and commitments toward advancing inclusive education in Nepal and beyond.
We invite you to join TIE 2026 and contribute to a meaningful dialogue on transforming inclusive education.
