On 12 June, Inclusive Education Nepal (IEN) facilitated a professional development workshop titled Making IEPs That Work for 30 teachers at Ullens School, Kathmandu in Nepal. The session focused on strengthening educators’ understanding and practical skills in developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that are meaningful, actionable, and genuinely responsive to the learning needs of children with disabilities and diverse educational requirements. The workshop brought together classroom teachers, learning support staff, and school coordinators in an interactive, collaborative space designed to move beyond theory and into practice.
IEPs are among the most powerful tools in inclusive education when developed thoughtfully and implemented with care. The workshop guided participants through the core principles of person-centred planning, goal-setting aligned with students’ strengths and needs, and the role of multi-disciplinary collaboration in making IEPs effective. Teachers engaged in guided exercises, case-based discussions, and reflective activities that connected international frameworks to the realities of Nepal’s school context.
IEN commends Ullens School Kathmandu for its commitment to investing in the professional growth of its educators. When schools create dedicated space for teachers to deepen their knowledge and skills, children with educational needs and disabilities are the ultimate beneficiaries. IEN remains committed to supporting schools across Nepal in building inclusive systems where every learner is seen, valued, and supported to thrive
