Program Details

Every child has the right to feel safe, respected, and free from harm — not only in homes and communities, but especially in schools where learning and trust should grow side by side. At Inclusive Education Nepal, we believe that safeguarding is inclusion in action. Inclusive safeguarding goes beyond compliance: It’s about building school cultures that care, listen, and protect, where every child’s dignity and voice are valued equally.

Our Approach

We integrate safeguarding into the broader philosophy of Transformative Inclusive Education (TIE), recognizing that safety is not only physical, but also emotional, social, and psychological.

Our approach is grounded in prevention, participation, and empowerment.

What We Do

Child Protection Policy Support

We help schools develop and implement inclusive child protection policies that align with Nepal’s legal frameworks, including the Constitution of Nepal (2015) and the Act Relating to Children (2018).

Capacity Building

Teachers, school management committees, and students are trained to identify, prevent, and respond to harm — including bullying, corporal punishment, discrimination, and neglect.

Grievance and Reporting Systems

We support schools in creating safe, confidential, and child-friendly reporting mechanisms that empower children to speak without fear.

Safe Schools Nepal Alliance

IEN leads the Safe Schools Nepal Alliance, a national network of schools committed to ending school-related violence and promoting safe, inclusive learning spaces.

Inclusive Safeguarding Framework

We apply a rights-based framework that ensures the protection of all children, especially those with disabilities, minority backgrounds, and intersecting vulnerabilities.

Why Inclusive Safeguarding Matters

Inclusion without safety is incomplete. Our work connects Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with Universal Design for Justice (UDJ) — ensuring that every aspect of schooling is designed for both learning and protection.

  • Representation as Dignity: Every child’s identity and background are respected.
  • Engagement as Participation: Children are active participants in their own safety and well-being.
  • Expression as Agency: Every child has a voice — and that voice is heard and acted upon.

This is what Transformative Inclusive Education looks like in practice: where schools are not just places of learning, but communities of care and justice.

Our Vision

Through Inclusive Safeguarding and Child Protection, we aim to make every classroom in Nepal a space where:

  • children are safe to learn,
  • teachers are equipped to protect, and
  • schools become havens of dignity, empathy, and belonging.

Because protecting children is not only a legal duty; it’s a moral responsibility and the heart of inclusive education.
