Research & Policy Advocacy
We drive evidence-based advocacy that influences practice and policy by Conducting research on inclusive education gaps and best practices and Producing policy recommendations to ministries and local bodies.

Program Details
Inclusive education can only transform systems when policy meets practice and research meets reality. At Inclusive Education Nepal, we bridge this gap, turning classroom experiences into policy insights and policy commitments into classroom change. Our research and advocacy efforts aim to influence how Nepal understands, funds, and implements inclusive education, ensuring that every reform is rooted in equity, evidence, and empathy.
Our Approach
Grounded in the principles of Transformative Inclusive Education (TIE), our research rethinks inclusion not as a technical solution but as a moral, social, and structural transformation. We combine academic rigor with lived experience to influence education systems that serve all learners — fairly, fully, and fearlessly.
What We Do
Applied Research and Knowledge Generation
- We conduct studies on inclusive pedagogy, early childhood inclusion, UDL-based classroom design, school-related violence, and teacher training models, generating insights that inform local and national action.
Policy Analysis and Advocacy
- IEN contributes to national dialogues and reform processes, providing policy briefs, position papers, and consultations that shape inclusive education frameworks and laws in Nepal.
Evidence-to-Action Initiatives
- We translate research into practical tools, resource packs, and school models that make inclusion achievable on the ground.
Collaborative Learning and Partnerships
- Our work engages universities, government bodies, and international partners to co-create knowledge ecosystems for inclusive education.
Youth and Practitioner Research
- We mentor teachers, students, and emerging researchers to document and share their experiences — building a growing community of local inclusion scholars.
Research Anchored in Justice
Through the lens of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Universal Design for Justice (UDJ), our research explores:
- Representation as Dignity — how learners’ identities are reflected in curriculum and policy.
- Engagement as Participation — how schools enable or restrict the voices of marginalized learners.
- Expression as Agency — how education empowers students to act, speak, and shape their own futures.
In this way, IEN’s research is not just about understanding inclusion — it’s about transforming systems that exclude.
Our Vision
We envision a Nepal where inclusive education is backed by strong evidence, responsive policy, and public commitment.
Through our research and advocacy, we strive to make inclusion not just a policy goal, but a national movementgrounded in justice, compassion, and transformation.
